TREATMENTS . . . Exercise Therapy
In addition to the ‘hands-on’ or electrotherapy treatment at our clinic in Cirencester, it is essential that patients follow the exercise regimes they have been given at home.
No patient leaves Active Physiotherapy without some form of programme and their diligence in following these recommendations will accelerate the healing process – and cut down on the cost of further clinic visits.
The routines may help to strengthen weakened muscles, improve muscle co-ordination or re-educate muscles which have become inhibited by pain.
They can range from simply stretches for a stiff neck to floor exercises or more elaborate resistance work with either free weights or ‘therabands’.
Someone with a problem of the lower limbs, for example, might be given proprioceptive exercises, which improve balance and co-ordination. They can also be quite fun as they involve the use of the gym ball or wobble board.
